Douglas Chandler Conducts Ethics and Professionalism Seminar for Gwinnett Pro Bono Project

In Firm Announcements, Georgia State Bar Grievances, Legal Malpractice

On April 15, 2015, Douglas Chandler of Chandler Law LLC presented to attorneys and staff members of the Gwinnett Pro Bono Project. The presentation, entitled Risk Management, Ethics, and Professional Liability, included an interactive discussion on how to prevent and address ethical and potential malpractice problems.

The Gwinnett Pro Bono Project, sponsored by the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, refers low income clients who cannot afford private legal representation to volunteer attorneys.

“Attorneys who volunteer for the Gwinnett Pro Bono Project receive training, support, and mentoring, including valuable seminars like this one,” commented Rachel Lazarus, Director. “With the volume of cases we handle, it’s critical that we minimize our risk and react quickly where there’s an issue. Douglas used the perfect mix of education, examples, and humor to help us more effectively interact with clients and prospective clients.”

Topics that generated the most discussion among attendees included creative client communication (Skype, etc.), best practices for client engagement and disengagement, activities most likely to generate client complaints, and the perils of self-representation in ethics or malpractice matters.

Douglas Chandler regularly speaks about legal ethics, professional liability, and risk management. The firm has recently published a white paper to help attorneys deal with GA State Bar disciplinary matters.
