GA Bar Rule 7.2 Advertising: How will new disclosure requirements impact attorney advertising?
On March 21, the Georgia Supreme Court ordered amendments to several Bar Rules, including Rule 7.2 Advertising. Attorney Douglas Chandler was one of the first to share the new advertising disclosure requirements on his website blog, through a Daily Report article, and during an NPR interview.
The Daily Report article discussed the new Bar Rule 7.2 Advertising requirements for disclosing additional details about the firm and business practices, including identity, location, referral practices, spokespersons, and fees. “The enhanced disclosure requirements will help consumers make more informed decisions and ultimately receive better legal support,” Chandler commented. “The disclosures should also help level the playing field among attorneys in the highly competitive consumer markets.”
As a follow-up, Lisa George from WABE, Atlanta’s NPR affiliate, interviewed Chandler for her story “Georgia’s Highest Court Regulates Attorney Advertising.” The interview highlighted new requirements geared toward making ads easier to understand by the average person, including larger text, actor disclosures, and accurate physical office location listings.
